John has been the President and CEO of South Western Insurance Group since May, 2013. John successfully re-energizes one of the country's leading Wholesale/MGA brands.
John has extensive experience in expanding various platforms and products. For over 20 years John has been a key member of all his teams. He now plays the role of a company leader. John successfully expands platforms and product offerings and drives his team, operations, product development and most importantly, the company.
Chief Financial Officer
Anastasia joined South Western Insurance Group in September 2019, after serving in senior financial roles at MedThree Insurance Group and Three Holdings Inc. since 2016. Anastasia plays a pivotal role in the organization as Chief Financial Officer, where she is not only responsible for the leading the entire finance department, but also oversees Human Resources, in addition to developing and implementing operational efficiencies within the various business units. In addition to her financial expertise, she is also admired for her ability to lead, develop and mentor her team members by continuously fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
Anastasia currently holds the designations of Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) and is actively working towards the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation.
Chief Underwriting Officer
As Chief Underwriting Officer, Ghazal’s mandate is the development and execution of the underwriting vision and strategic plan for all provincial and national Three Holdings companies (South Western Insurance Group, MedThree and Optisure). Ghazal’s deep industry knowledge and propensity for long- standing relationships have provided product development and exclusive verticals for the broker distribution channel and ensured long-term profitable market relationships.
Focusing on profitability, growth and efficiencies that meet with the immediate, short and long-term ambitions of our MGA communities, Ghazal takes advantage of his awareness of market dynamics and market cycles to continue to drive and enhance business performance.
Since joining South Western Insurance Group in 2002, Ghazal has been instrumental in implementing comprehensive underwriting strategies, streamlining distribution functionality, as well as, increasing product and vertical options. Key to Ghazal’s success is facilitating the broker distribution channel to exclusive and innovative solutions to multiple scenarios both domestically and via our Lloyd’s of London partners. Ghazal’s capacity to build and nurture exceptional relationships while utilizing a well-established practice in adhering to underwriting standards, instructions and best practice methodologies to minimize risk, have been paramount in driving efficiencies that align with the organization’s progressive goals.
Directrice - Quebec - Managetr
Josée joined South Western Insurance Group Limited as Senior Underwriter for the Montreal office in December 2015. She draws on extensive experience in commercial insurance, and full bilingual proficiency, to service and collaborate with clients. Recognized for her consistent attention to detail, Josée’s disciplined approach to problem solving stems from work with both large and mid-sized insurance operations, most notably in the areas of negotiation, risk analysis, and civil liability.
Team Lead - Financial Lines / Healthcare
Darlene has over 20 years of Underwriting experience in various classes of financial lines business. She brings extensive Underwriting knowledge to her role as Team Lead. In her role as Team Lead, Darlene oversees the Financial Lines team, which involves mentoring the Financial Lines Underwriters, providing guidance and overall support. Darlene is also responsible for underwriting and analyzing a large book of business for our Architects & Engineers program, with a focus on the large and complex risks.
Team Lead - Direct & Facultative Business Solutions
My insurance career started at South Western Group about 20 years ago and learned the business from the ground up. I started in the mailroom and one year later became an Underwriting Assistant. After this, I worked as a Junior Underwriter for specific programs, including Bonds for Surety and Fidelity, where I held the seal for several insurance markets. It has been a great experience working my way up to becoming a Senior Underwriter for General Liability and Pollution Liability. In 2021 I became the Team Lead for the Casualty Department in Toronto and Vancouver, B.C.
Team Lead/ Senior Underwriter – Property
With over 25 years of experience in the Insurance Industry, Melrose has always had a passion for coaching and developing others. In her past role of 15 years as a Commercial Property/Casualty Supervisor (P&C) she led a team of up to 14 direct reports. Her passion is to coach, develop and mentor technically strong underwriters and leaders for the future.
Melrose recently joined the South Western Insurance Group in May 2021 as an Underwriter and was promoted to a Team Lead/Senior Underwriter in July.
Melrose is a Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP), a Certified Risk Manager (CRM), and holds a Business Management Certificate from the University of Toronto.
Senior Underwriter/Team Lead, Toronto Liability
Gary is Senior Underwriter/Team Lead for South Western Group (SWG); and, is responsible for driving growth across our Liability markets. Gary joined SWG in 2020, having invested more than 20 years in underwriting and leadership positions, specializing in property and casualty, and predominantly in the capacity of managing general agent (MGA).
Gary’s success is predicated on his agile coaching strengths as a team leader; his consideration of the extensive variables affecting his market(s), and his emotional intelligence that leads his approach to delivering customer service excellence, accessibility, growth and innovation.
Marketing & Communications Manager
Mary joined Three Holdings Inc. in 2022 to consolidate and streamline both internal and external marketing and communications initiatives, concentrating on content development, storytelling, national branding, and to produce strategies to maximize support to our broker communities.
Moving forward, Mary will concentrate on developing and executing projects to connect with our employees, leverage problem-solving and relationship engagement efforts to enhance value to our broker community -- through thought-leadership, proactive and intuitive marketing and the utilization of meaningful, interpolated analytics to identify and support decision-making.
Additionally, Mary will develop key messaging to drive consistency, centralize department creative assets, and both create and execute strategies to expand social media, website and external communications.
Mary’s background includes marketing, communications and medicine in the insurance, financial, medical and technology sectors; including value-added experience in public relations, crisis management, as well as investor relations.
