SWG ELITE: Keeping Clients Summer-Ready with Personal Lines Insurance

March 31, 2021

After a long winter, spring is finally coming and this means summer is not far off. Anxious from spending the cold months cooped up and socially distanced in their homes, Canadians are itching to get outdoors, breathe in the fresh air, and feel the warm sunlight on their skin.

According to news sources, Canadians who have never tried outdoor activities like camping and RVing are giving it a try in light of the ongoing border closures and other travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (1) Also, more Canadians will be spending their summer at the cottage. Sources from the Toronto Sun predict that Ontarians will stick to the cottages for summer vacation (whether their own cottage or a rented abode), opting for a getaway that’s close to home. (2) Rather than visit Niagara Falls or the CN Tower, Canadians are getting out into National Parks and campgrounds.

Brokers serving the leisure and lifestyle market have a prime opportunity to offer clients specialist coverage to new clients. Whether these clients have just purchased their first vacation trailer, or want to buy a boat, this is a time to expect an influx of need for personal lines insurance across Canada.

An Overview of the SWG Elite Program

Personal lines products are tailored to the insurance needs of high-value property such as campers, RVs, trailers, mobile homes, and watercraft. South Western Group’s broad range of coverage offers the insured protection and peace of mind so they can fully enjoy all that summer life has to offer.

For campers/RVs/vacation trailers:

This category includes campers, RVs, vacation trailers, golf carts (up to $5,000 for physical damage), tent trailers, and toy haulers. We provide coverage for common exposures and losses, including:

Mechanical and electrical breakdowns, such as flat tires and battery failures

Roadside assistance, towing, and some fees related to accidents

Theft of the vehicle or its contents

South Western offers three packages: Guaranteed Replacement Cost for trailers less than five years old; Replacement Cost for trailers five years old and older; and Standard for trailers (and golf carts) 15 years old and older.

For mobile homes:

Our coverage includes summer/seasonal mobile homes and mobile homes rented out to others. The Elite program covers the owner in case:

Someone has an accident or is injured while in the home

The mobile home and its contents are stolen, vandalized, or otherwise damaged

The mobile home is involved in unintentional damage to someone else’s property

SWG also offers replacement cost coverage available for mobile homes built in 1995 or newer, with consideration given to units “fully” updated within the last 25 years.

For watercraft/boating:

SWG offers a broad range of coverage for boating. Eligible watercraft includes cruisers/cuddy boats/houseboats, sailboats, pontoon boats, ski boats, and sea-doos. We cover the owner for the following risks:

Accidents and unexpected damage to the boat and its contents (for example, the boat striking a submerged rock or log and being damaged, a collision, or the boat sinking)

Theft of the boat or its contents, and vandalism
